CommonMeal - Chutney - Coconut Tomato Chutney

Coconut Tomato Chutney

Tomato,Cut into pieces250g
Fresh Coconut1/2 Cup
Ground Nuts2 Tbsp
Tildal2 Tbsp
Cumin Seeds1 Tsp
Green Chillies,Sliced4
Lime Juice1/2 Tsp
Turmeric PowderPinch
Coriander Leaves Few
Garlic Cloves10
Tamarind Paste1/2 Tsp
SaltTo Taste
Asafotida/HingPinch
TemperingAs Required
Oil3 Tbsp

  1. Heat a pan and add oil to it. When oil is hot add cumin seeds. Fry well till the seeds splutter. Add green chillies and garlic cloves. Finally add tomatoes and cook this tomatoes till they becomes soft. Keep it aside to get cool.
  2. Mean while mixer the fresh coconut into paste. Ina pan dry roast the ground nuts and tildal separately and mixer it to a fine powder.
  3. Now add all ingredients to the mixer and paste it nicely.
  4. Finally add the tempering to the chutney.
  1. Serve this chutney with Idli,Dosa/ Utappam,Upma,Roti etc…

Ashgourd Tomato Chutney

  1. Heat a pan and add oil to it. When oil is hot add cumin seeds. Fry well till the seeds splutter. Add green chillies and garlic cloves.
  2. Add grated ashgourd and turmeric powder to it. Fry them for 3-5 mins or till rawness goes off from the ashgourd.
  3. Add tomatoes,mix well and close the lid. Cook this till the tomatoes becomes tender.
  4. Once it becomes cool add tamarind paste,salt and blend it to fine paste. Finally add Tempering to the chutney.
  1. Serve this chutney with Idli,Dosa/ Utappam,Upma,Roti etc…

  1. Wash tomatoes thoroughly and chop it. Heat a pan and add oil to it. When oil is hot add garlic cloves and then tomatoes.
  2. Once the tomatoe becomes tender add tamarind. Cook this for 3 mins.
  3. Blend it to a fine paste by adding salt,methi powder and chilli powder. Do not add any water,as the tomatoes itself contains water.
  4. After that heat oil in a kadai, add the tempering ingredients one by one and after that add this ground chutney to it and cook in medium heat until the moisture dries and oil floats on top.(takes about 5-7 minutes)
  1. You can also add a pinch of sugar or jaggery in the end and simmer for few minutes. This will help to balance to sour n spicy taste if u are giving for kids.
  2. It can be stored for a month without tempering.
  3. Serve this chutney with Idli,Dosa/ Utappam,Upma,Roti etc…

  1. Heat a pan and add oil to it. When oil is hot add green chillies and garlic cloves. When chillies becomes soft add coriander and then tomatoes. Cook this for 5 mins and switch off the flame.
  2. Once it becomes cool add tamarind paste,salt and blend it to fine paste. Add water when only required.
  3. Finally add Tempering to the chutney.
  1. Serve this chutney with Idli,Dosa/ Utappam,Upma,Roti etc…
