Dal - Mysore Style

Toor Dal1 Cup
Coriander Seeds1 Tsp
Cumin Seeds1 Tsp
Onions,Half Sliced1 Medium Size
Red Chillies4
Tamarind Paste1 Tsp
Turmeric Powder1/2 Tsp

  1. Clean, wash dal in water and drain, add the chillies,Cumin seeds,coriander seeds, turmeric powder,Onions salt and 3 cups of water and pressure cook till the dals are tender.
  2. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid. Whisk so as to mash the dals or grind them to a fine paste . Keep aside.
  3. In a separate pan add dal mixture and tamarind paste. Cook this for 5 mins and bring it to boil.
  4. For the tempering, heat the ghee in a deep pan and add the mustard seeds and nigella seeds. When the mustard seeds crackle, add the red chilli and onions and sauté till the onions turn translucent.
  5. Add the dals, mix well and bring to boil. Garnish with coriander and curry leaves.
